The Origin of the name “Qitan”

The nanopore sequencing method is a simple and straightforward process that involves the translocation of carbon-based building blocks, or nucleotides, of DNA molecules through a protein nanopore under an electric field. The resulting changes in current through the nanopore provide the genetic code information. This process has given rise to the name “Qitan”, derived from the Chinese words for “neatly arranged carbon atoms”.

Nanopore sequencing is the latest generation of commercialized sequencing technology, greatly expanding its application scenarios with advantages such as long-read, real-time capability, and portability. Qitan Tech, as one of the few high-tech enterprises comprehensively mastering and commercializing this technology, will continue to explore technologies and iterate products. We aim to provide more convenient and effective solutions for research and applications in life sciences and related fields, driving the development of the genetic industry from the upstream and making“gene code at your fingertips”.
